This seems like a simple statement, but as humans navigating the world we are pulled into many different directions at any given time.

We have responsibilities, work, family, household, pets, bills, grocery shopping, laundry, the list can go on forever.

However, despite these responsibilities we also have goals we are dreaming about achieving one day. One day I will start that business. One day I will begin training for that race. One day I will travel the world.

Without realizing it, many of us start to think that in order to achieve our goals that the conditions need to be aligned just right. We wait for the perfect time to begin.

I have found in my own experience that there is a rarely a perfect moment to begin.  Does it exist?  Sure, but it often relies on factors outside of your control cosmically aligning.

Rather than waiting, I look for what I can do to inch forward toward my goal.  It may only be an incremental change in the short term but I've found that this best way to actually start the process towards achieving your goals.

James Clear highlighted the success of Dave Brailsford using this approach with the British Cycling Team.

A small 1% improvement every day results in 37.78% improvement over the course of a year.  That is tangible progress!

Have the courage to just start and embracing that it may look different, you might stumble a bit, or it might be very slow at first. This is ok, the key is that you are putting action towards that goal you wish to achieve rather than just dreaming about starting.
